Fear not though with a bit of TLC I can renovation you door and surround to help you maintain original features and protect the character of your home.
Sash & Casement Window Renovation
If your windows have seen better days, then my Sash Window Restoration Service can usually repair them.
I am able to bring them back to life at much less cost than replacing them as well as reducing the environmental impact of replacement windows and preserving the heritage of your property.

Emergency Repair Work & Glazing
Life is never simple and accidents happen, so whether it’s a stray football or damage from a storm give me a call and if I can help I will.
Because emergency work is generally unscheduled, I try and fit it around my normal repair and restoration work, so repairs may take slightly longer but I’ll always endeavour to make sure everything is made secure as soon as possible and then carry our repairs in due course.
Brick & Stone – Resin Repairs
There is nothing worse than a chipped stone sill, damaged brick or damaged stonework. Especially when it’s difficult to change for new such as a brick with a cable through or a stone window sill.
By carefully tinting the resin I am able to easily reapir damage like this with a durable repair that will stand the test of time.

Heritage Slimline Double Glazing
A great way to increase thermal efficiency and enjoy a warmer home with smaller energy bills while retaining your existing windows is to install Heritage Slimline Double Glazing Units.
It’s not always possible to fit this to your period windows as a minimum glazing bar width and depth is required and some older window won’t meet this requirement.

During the renovation process, I carefully remove your single glazed units and deepen your existing window rebates ready to then install a 11mm slimline double glazed units.
The size of the new double-glazed unit will vary according to the size of your sash and frame, but whatever the size you will benefit from less noise and more warmth.
I install very high-quality conservation glazing units. These can be used in new windows or in restored period listed windows. They can be fitted with timber beading or putty line detailing to match the original.

Then your windows are refitted to the original frame, re-corded and heavier sash weights fitting to counterbalance the now heavier sash.
As standard, the slimline glazing units include Softcoat 1.1 glass as its Low E pane, which is more thermally efficient than traditional hardcoated glass, such as K glass, and it also does not carry the same amount of colour.
This enables period property homeowners to benefit enormously from energy efficient, listed building double glazing, whilst replicating the original design of their period windows, including the narrow glazing bars so important to maintaining a truly authentic appearance with sightlines for listed windows from only 7mm (depending upon spacer thickness).
The glazing units I use have the latest technology warm edge spacer bars in a choice of colours, ensuring they are as thermally efficient as possible and can produce centre pane U values of 1.9 or 1.5 Wm2K on a 4mm gas filled cavity, to as low as 1.4 or 1.2 Wm2K on a 6mm gas filled cavity, depending upon the type of gas fill used.
For listed buildings consent will be required from the local authority planning department and I recommend that you contact your local conservation officer once I’ve assessed your windows and provided a quote to obtain details and permission.

How renovation works:
I start with the removal of the existing timber beading which allows me to remove your windows, leaving the frame in place.
2: The frame will be renovated in situ, I will take off the paint where necessary and carry out the relevant repairs using the Repair Care resin repair system, in some extreme cases cheek splicing may be required or the old sills may need replacing with new ones.
New sills are made from Iroko, a West African hardwood. Other repairs are carried out with Accoya, a type of wood that undergos a modification process, more specifically known as Acetylation. This process turns radiata pine wood into the worlds most stable woods
3: The sashes will be renovated in my dedicated workshop. Repairs to the timber will be carried out, loose and crumbling putty will be replaced, and broken or damaged glass will be replaced.
4. The sashes will be reinstalled to the frames with new sash cords using high quality wax-coated cord, the sashes are re-hung and balanced, and discrete draught- proofing is put into place.
5: Your windows will be coated externally with top quality preservative primer, and a new period locking catch and lifters will be fitted it required, however where possible original window furniture will be restored.
6: When finished, you will enjoy large reductions in noise and dust pollution along with much lower energy bills.
Exterior and interior paint decoration to the window and frame can be carried out during the restoration process if required.
